VHS and Tape

Transferring VHS, super VHS, 8mm, Hi 8mm, Digital 8mm and MiniDV tapes to DVD

Why Convert VHS to DVD?

  • Tapes can quickly degrade over time and with use. In just 12 years, your VHS and 8mm tapes can lose picture quality. Transfer VHS to DVD to preserve your family memories for generations to come.
  • Plus, DVD technology is more accessible – it’s much easier to find a DVD player than a VCR or other tape players!
  • DVD can be watched over and over again without reducing the quality. Tapes, including 8mm and VHS, degrade with each viewing.
  • DVDs can last up to 100 years with proper care. They are also easier to store.

How Does VHS to DVD Transfer Work?

We take special care with tape transfers to ensure the highest quality preservation of your precious moments.

Step 1: Capture Process. The movie tape is placed in the capture machine and the analog video is fed through a Time Base Corrector. This corrects the tearing and jumping common in the picture of video tapes.

Step 2: Editing. Unwanted scenes are removed such as blank spaces, video shot with the lens cap still on, video noise (snow), old television shows etc.

Step 3: Build Customized Menus. Each movie package includes customized menus, including 20 second thumbnail video previews. A 2 hour movie package includes 2 menu pages with 18 total thumbnails, spaced 6-7 minutes apart. You can also choose custom scenes for the thumbnails. See at a glance the entire contents of the DVD, and your own custom titles.

Step 4: DVD Authoring. After the menu is completed with each of the thumbnails tied to a chapter point on the video, the video is authored to a DVD.  The DVD is then thoroughly tested to ensure proper playback.

Step 5: DVD Printing. Custom titling is printed directly onto your DVD, instead of a label. Stick on labels can peel off during playback, damaging your DVD player and DVD.

Step 6: DVD Case Printing. Full color, custom designed inserts are printed for your DVD case.
